“Mystique and Charm”: Delving into Moody Interior Design with “Old World” Accents

Characterizing many homes throughout the centuries, “Moody” interior design is encapsulated by rich colors and textures as well as ambient lighting elements which collide in a way that creates both drama and sophistication. This week we’ll be delving into the key pieces that embody the “Moody” design aesthetic within this board, as well as some designer tips on balancing out the dark tones throughout such spaces.

Starting off with the basics of building a “Moody” interior, for this design, a dominant color palette of navy and black was selected along with accents of gold through the fixtures and decorative objects, in order to add balance and depth to the space. Upon first glance at this board, Cambria’s “Charlestown” quartz countertops make a statement in an eye-catching soft black rippled with delicate grey veins, perfectly anchoring the rich blue color of the cabinetry from Fabuwood featured in “Galaxy Indigo”.

Offsetting the darkness of the countertops and cabinetry, the “Trapani” LVP from Johnson Hardwood’s “Sicily” collection adds a touch of “Old World” character to this space, featuring a subtle warm tone with darker knots and distressed details, perfectly mimicking the look of rustic hardwood, and creating a “lived in” feel in this otherwise opulent space.

Diving into the products within the bathroom, the faucet from Kohler’s “Artifacts” collection in “Vibrant Brushed Moderne Brass” is every designer’s dream, with mix and match handle options available. Almost as though they were made for the countertops, the “Nero Marquina T-handles”, reminiscent of 19th century valve tops and finished off with hand polished marble, match seamlessly with the countertops while adding contrast to the established color palette flowing throughout the wallpaper and vanity.

Brightening up this master bath while flowing with the theme, is a beautiful checkerboard floor design, featuring marble 12"x12" tiles in “China Black” and “Contempo White” from Daltile. Prominent throughout history, and associated with timelessness, the stark contrast of the black and white pattern beautifully accents the gold fixtures seen throughout the space while paying homage to the underlying “Old World” theme of this board.
