“Evoking Seasonal Comfort Within Your Home”: Picking Color Schemes and Unique Fixtures That Capture the Essence of the Winter Season

Although the sight of snow is considered rare in this part of Georgia, with this week’s board, one can imagine that they are cozied up warm by a fire, somewhere near the North Pole ringing in the spirit of the season. This week we’ll be exploring the many elements at work within this design, infusing each corner with a sense of comfort and elegance inspired by the color palette of winter.

Similar to what one would picture in a winter forest, each of these rooms tie in mixed tones and textures such as cool greys and browns seen throughout the metals used in the hardware, lighting, and plumbing fixtures as well as the plank flooring and tile. Adhering to a simple color palette in both the kitchen and the bath, the unique “stone” colored sinks were thoughtfully selected from Kohler; the undermount 34" cast iron sink, coincidentally in the color “Cashmere” from the “Ironbridge” Collection, and the undermount bathroom basin in the color “Thunder Grey” from Kohler’s “Ladena” collection, to add a hint of contrast and warmth against the light creamy grey color of Cambria’s “Colton” countertops.

Mimicking this motif, is the “Adirondack” sconce from Troy Lighting, pictured with a textured linen shade and twisted branches dusted in a warm silver leaf for a slightly “antique’ look, just across from the “Dunkirk” pendant by Hudson Valley, adorned by fine crystal embellishments similar to that of a snowflake. By incorporating these fixtures within a space, or others that are similar, any room can begin to take on the imagery of a winter wonderland.

Lastly, to further emulate feelings of warmth and comfort in this space, are the plaid area rugs from Loloi’s “Caleb” collection in Taupe/Natural and Natural/Grey. Both rugs introduce a hint of sophistication and comfort within each room in a stunning wool and cotton knit, like that of your favorite flannel you look forward to cuddling up in every year; the one where the colors combine into a pattern that isn’t overly flashy, but timeless.
